腦瞳憫 State Celebrates New Firearms Training Range on DeLand Campus with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Jan 16th Deland Firearms Ribbon Cutting

Facility is the first phase of transitioning the Charles M. Curb School of Emergency Services to DeLand

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (January 16, 2025)  Approximately 200 students, faculty, staff and members of the community celebrated the opening of an all-weather Firearms Training Range today at 腦瞳憫s DeLand Campus. The facility is the first phase of the Colleges plan transitioning the Charles M. Curb School of Emergency Services to DeLand from its current home at DSCs Advanced Technology College.

The 20,000-square-foot facility features 15 firing lanes, a classroom and an observation area.

With this range, recruits gain on-site, all-weather training capabilities, enabling them to achieve the highest levels of firearms proficiency, said Dr. Tom LoBasso, President of 腦瞳憫 State. It stands as the most modern and advanced facility of its kind in Central Florida.

腦瞳憫 State is nearing completion of a vehicle driving pad, tactical training pavilion and physical training track, and later this summer will begin renovation of Buildings 1 and 8 on the campus, which will include classrooms, patient simulators and virtual reality training facilities for the Schools first responder programs.

The State Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis allocated $6.2 million for construction of the Firearms Training Center, $4.8 million for the vehicle driving pad, tactical training pavilion and physical training track, and $3.3 million to remodel Buildings 1 and 8.

When the transition from the Advanced Technology College is complete later this Spring, the Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Training Center will be home to up to 240 law enforcement recruits, 70 corrections officer recruits and 250 Emergency Medical Technician and paramedic students annually.

This all-weather range will allow us to design a firearms training program to meet the specific needs of recruits and sworn officers alike, training them to the highest level of firearms proficiency possible, said Evan Doyle, Director of the Charles M. Curb School of Emergency Services. We will now be able to fundamentally transform the way we train our recruits by formulating the most optimal training schedule for each academy.

In 1965, then 腦瞳憫 Beach Junior College launched a two-year Law Enforcement program in partnership with the 腦瞳憫 Beach Police Department and representatives of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The program moved to the Advanced Technology College in 2012.
